What’s a CPAP machine? Maintain CPAP machine equipment

CPAP machine

What’s a CPAP machine? Suc Khoe Viet will introduce and define CPAP machines for customers as well as instructions on how to use CPAP ventilators.

CPAP machine” is a general term often used to describe various machines that treat sleep apnea. These machines deliver air through tubing and into a mask to keep your airway open while you sleep. This process is known as sleep therapy and is designed to help you get a restful night’s sleep

Maintain your CPAP machine equipment

To get the most out of your CPAP therapy, you need to regularly check, clean, and maintain your CPAP device.

Mask maintenance

Over time, facial oils can build up on the mask and reduce the effectiveness of the seal. That’s why we recommend washing your face with water to remove excess oil before putting on the mask each night. We recommend not applying moisturizer near areas that the mask will touch.

Equipment maintenance

To keep your unit in good condition, you should clean the unit and clean the air ducts weekly. We also recommend checking the air filter at least once a month to prevent dust build-up. When the air filter is clogged, the air pressure supplied to you will be reduced.

Humidifier Maintenance

Clean the humidifier in warm water with a mild detergent and let it dry, out of direct sunlight. Inspect the water tank once a month for signs of wear and damage. Replace the tank if it leaks or has cracks, discoloration, or dents.

How to choose the best machine for you

Receive a prescription.

If you’re diagnosed with sleep apnea, your sleep doctor will prescribe a type of machine based on your personal therapy needs and determine your airflow pressure level.

Discuss with your doctor.

During your appointment with your sleep doctor, ask questions! Discuss the different machines and the various airflow and pressure settings so you both decide what’s going to be most comfortable for you. You’re also able to request a ResMed-specific machine.

Get your machine set up.

Your CPAP equipment store will set up your machine with your doctor’s prescribed settings and help you feel comfortable with your therapy equipment. If you go with an APAP machine like an AirSense 10 AutoSet, have them verify it’s on the AutoSet therapy mode instead of CPAP (it includes both options).

Ask questions at the CPAP store.

We encourage you to ask questions at your CPAP equipment store. They’re the ones who will monitor your nightly therapy and help troubleshoot any issues you may experience with your CPAP therapy, machine or mask.

Replace your CPAP machine device

To get the most out of your sleep apnea treatment, you should regularly check and replace your devices as recommended to optimize mask seal, treatment comfort, and air quality
Mask cushions accumulate dirt, oils, and bacteria with each use. These can irritate the skin while you sleep, causing skin irritation and discomfort.
CPAP machine filters need to be replaced, just like car air filters; buildup over time makes the filter less effective and can contribute to nasal symptoms and congestion.

Based on the level of wear, we recommend using the following guidelines for replacing CPAP parts

Remove and replace

Any signs of damage (cracks, breaks, tears)
Mask frame
Mask head strap frame Silicone mask cushion

Every 6 months (minimum)

Dust filter
Replace regularly if there are any holes or blockages due to dirt

Instructions for using CPAP machine

Put on the mask.

Press the Start/Pause button or breathe normally if SmartStart™ is on.

You will know that therapy is on when the Sleep Report screen is displayed.

The current treatment pressure is shown in green.

During Ramp, the pressure gradually increases and you will see a rotating ring. Once the prescribed treatment pressure is reached, the entire ring will turn green.

The screen will automatically turn black after a short time. You can press the Home or the dial to turn it back on. If the power is lost during therapy, the device will automatically restart therapy when power is restored.

The AirSense 10 device has a light sensor that adjusts the screen brightness based on the light in the room.
